If Smart Devices Told the Truth About How Animals Suffer for Meat, Eggs, and Dairy

What if your smart devices automatically told the full truth about how animals used for food are exploited? As these clever gadgets fly off the shelves, PETA has launched an ad campaign asking tech giants to update their smart devices with a “truth mode” that tells exactly how animals suffer when they’re used in food industries.

Watch PETA’s new commercial and see how a truly smart device would respond to questions about animal-based foods:

‘Truth Mode’: How Your Smart Devices Would Really Respond

Hey Siri, how do I make cheese?

Forcibly impregnate (i.e., rape) a cow by artificially inseminating her. Wait nine months. Steal her baby within hours of birth. Hook her up to a milking machine several times a day to take the milk meant for her calf and use it for cheese. Remember to send her to a slaughterhouse once you think she’s no longer useful.

Looking for a kinder option? Spare the cow and try vegan cheese instead.

Google, should I have fish, crab, or lobster for dinner?

Fish, crabs, and lobsters all feel pain and want to live, just as you do, and they suffer immensely when they’re yanked out of their aquatic homes and violently killed. So you shouldn’t eat any of them. Would you like to see a list of the best vegan seafood products instead?

Hey Siri, show me what free-range egg farms look like.

OK, here are several PETA undercover investigations that show what “free-range” farms really look like:

Alexa, where can I find humane meat?

I’m sorry—“humane” meat doesn’t exist. On “humane” farms, animals are still subjected to cruel industry standards, such as severe crowding and a terrifying death in a slaughterhouse. Here’s video footage recorded on farms that claim to produce “humane” turkey in a “stress-free environment”:

Hey Siri, where do eggs come from?

Eggs come from chickens who are often crammed into crowded, filthy sheds; used as egg-laying machines for years; and then finally gassed in the sheds or killed in a slaughterhouse when their egg production slows. Male chicks in the egg industry are ground up alive moments after birth, because they can’t lay eggs.

As an alternative to eggs, I’ve pulled up some great vegan breakfast options, which include vegan eggs, just for you.
