Meet the ‘Kind Frog’
TeachKind Science is proud to offer the Kind Frog, an ethically dissectible silicone-based frog. This innovative tool comes with several key benefits, including:
- Anatomically correct color-coded organs that make it easy for students to identify and study them with a clarity that often isn’t possible with real frogs, including the bladder, the gallbladder, the heart, the oviducts, the ovaries, the fat bodies, intestine, the pancreas, the stomach, the spleen, the lungs, the kidneys, and the liver
- A complete female reproductive system to identify and discuss
- Accompanying lesson plans
- Easy setup because Kind Frog is liquid- and toxin-free, so there’s no need for gloves, goggles, or aprons, eliminating the need to purchase additional materials, which can become costly
- Easy cleanup that doesn’t require biohazard-safe disposal because Kind Frog isn’t stored in or processed with toxic chemicals—so there’s also no odor
- Designed by teachers for teachers, the Kind Frog is poised to replace the millions of living frogs taken directly from their homes in nature each year and killed for dissection in schools across the U.S.
Why Use the ‘Kind Frog’?
Real frogs used for classroom dissection don’t die of natural causes. They’re taken from their habitats—which disrupts ecosystems—and killed, often by drowning, solely for classroom dissection, a practice that’s not even part of the curricula for medical students or required for middle and high school students.
PETA investigations into the practices of Bio Corporation, a major supplier of biological specimens, revealed that pigeons were drowned in crates and that living crayfish were injected with latex.
Dissecting animals can also harm students by inflicting long-term psychological distress, promoting insensitivity toward animals, and discouraging interest in science careers, particularly among females, due to discomfort or fear of peer judgment. It also desensitizes students to the value of life, and research shows that many students at all educational levels are uncomfortable with using animals for dissection and experimentation.
Teach Kind Science With the ‘Kind Frog’
The Kind Frog is a game changer in the classroom, offering a humane, engaging, and practical alternative to animal dissection. It’s not only about saving animals’ lives—it’s about enriching the learning experience for students of all backgrounds. Diverse learners often miss out on a variety of science experiments, but the Kind Frog eliminates these issues for every student, providing them with the opportunity to participate actively in engaging, hands-on learning experiences.
With the Kind Frog, you can make science exciting and accessible while upholding ethical standards and modern educational practices. Its user-friendly design and easy cleanup make it a win-win for both teachers and students, paving the way for a kinder, more inclusive future in science education.
TeachKind Science’s free program is now enrolling teachers for the 2024–2025 school year.
