On Anti-Bullfighting Day, Celebrate Victories for Bulls Around the World
Every suspension, ban, and legal action brings us closer to a future without bullfighting. Help us keep the momentum going!
On June 25, we mark Anti-Bullfighting Day, a chance to a day to honor bulls, recognize the growing movement against bullfighting, and celebrate the victories that are helping create a kinder world.
Bulls are curious, sensitive, gentle individuals, and more people every day recognize that they deserve respect, not torment in the name of “entertainment.”
PETA entities around the world have helped expose the suffering built into this industry, rally public pressure, support legal action, and drive momentum for change. Every canceled event, every court ruling, every ban, every protest, and every signature says bulls matter, and bullfighting’s days are numbered.
This Anti-Bullfighting Day, we’re celebrating major victories for bulls—and looking ahead to all the progress on the horizon. We’re celebrating the advocates, lawmakers, and supporters who keep pushing this cruel industry back. We’re celebrating every victory that spares bulls from agony. And we’re celebrating the powerful truth that when compassionate people speak up, change follows.
What Happens to Bulls in a Bullfight?
Bulls don’t choose to take part in bullfights. They are forced to fight for their lives—and are killed even if they “win.” Bullfighting inflicts terror, pain, and death on bulls for spectacle. In the ring, assailants stab bulls repeatedly with lances and barbed harpoons called banderillas before attempting to kill them by driving a sword into their lungs.
Then, bullfighters crowd the mutilated, bleeding bull and try to sever his spinal cord with a dagger at the base of the skull. This violence has no place in our world, and the victories below prove it. Across cities, states, and entire countries, people are challenging bullfighting and refusing to let it hide behind the “tradition.”
