Our Work in Jordan
October, November, and December 2026
Petra Veterinary Clinic staff tended to 2,379 animals, including camels, dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, and mules. This quarter was the height of the tourist season in Petra, so staff have been busier than ever helping animals, ensuring they have water, and responding to the emergency line.
While rasping the teeth of this donkey, a necessary procedure or teeth become overgrown, staff noticed a rusty, metal chain across his nose was painfully eating into his flesh. The team removed the chain, treated the wound, and replaced the chain with a soft cloth lead.

A volunteer brought a limping cat to the clinic and staff found an open wound on his leg. They stitched it up and gave him antibiotics and painkillers. The volunteer is keeping an eye on him as he heals.

After finding a dog trapped in a deep well, a team member maneuvered herself down into the hole and got the uninjured dog out. Staff gave him food and water and advised the pond owner to secure the gate to prevent animals from getting in.

The team does outreach to owners about proper feeding, but colic continues to be a problem.
This horse ate trash and developed colic from the rotten food. His owner called the emergency line and the veterinary team gave the horse IV fluids, painkillers, and antibiotics. He made a full recovery.

This donkey developed colic and was in and out of consciousness. Staff gave him IV fluids and anti-inflammatory drugs and used a nasal tube to release the blockage. He also made a full recovery.

Improperly fitted equipment that is rarely removed leads to great distress. This donkey was suffering from painful saddle sores. Veterinary staff cleaned the wounds and applied medication, instructing the owner to keep the donkey saddle-free until he has healed.
