PETA’s Global Compassion Fund just added a new country to its growing network of lifesaving projects: South Africa! With support from kind donors around the world, animals there are getting access to affordable spay/neuter surgeries and critical veterinary care.

From Uganda to Ukraine—and now South Africa—the Global Compassion Fund continues to expand its reach, helping animals worldwide.

How PETA’s Global Compassion Fund Is Changing Lives in South Africa

Thanks to support from PETA’s Global Compassion Fund, the Wellington SPCA has already spayed or neutered 642 animals so far in 2025—and that number keeps growing every week.

In addition to providing sterilizations, the clinics offer vaccinations and critical education to help guardians understand the importance of spaying and neutering. These programs are strengthening an entire community’s compassion for animals.

Why Spaying and Neutering Saves Lives

Dogs and cats can’t do their own family planning. But their guardians can help prevent generations of suffering. In just one year, an unspayed cat can give birth to 12 kittens, and an unspayed dog can give birth to 16 puppies. In just a few months, those puppies and kittens can also reproduce—and that’s why there are approximately 4 million animals in South Africa struggling to survive on the streets.

By supporting spay/neuter clinics, kind people like you are tackling the root cause of animal homelessness. Each surgery prevents countless animals from being born into communities that don’t have the resources to care for them—reducing suffering for generations to come.
