850 dogs, cats, goats, sheep, horses, pigs, and other animals displaced by the war in Ukraine will be kept safe at Animal Rescue Kharkiv’s new sanctuary supported by PETA. Crews are hard at work building new structures to house more animals and keep them warm, safe, and happy in the frigid months ahead.

Before Animal Rescue Kharkiv acquired the site, the space was going to be a dairy farm. Thankfully, it was never finished, so cows’ babies and milk were never stolen from them at the site, which will now be a safe haven for hundreds of animals.

Meet Some of the 850 Animals Rescued in Ukraine Who Will Live at the New Sanctuary

The new Animal Rescue Kharkiv sanctuary is still under construction, but that doesn’t mean workers aren’t already caring for many animals, such as this dog who received a much-needed haircut:

Once construction of the new dog runs is complete, each rescued dog will be placed with 10 to 14 canines of compatible temperaments and will have access to more than 1,290 square feet of space in which to play.
